Rain forecast in Maharashtra including Mumbai
According to the Meteorological Department, there is a possibility of light rain in Mumbai along with some parts of north-central Maharashtra by December 13. According to private weather agency Skymet, the weather in Mumbai will remain cloudy and light rain may also occur. Apart from this, the temperature in Mumbai will plunge and the current maximum temperature of 32 degrees Celsius will drop to 26 degrees.
Heavy rain alert in 11 states of the country
Due to the heavy snowfall on the mountains and especially the impact of Cyclone Mendus in the states of South India, the Meteorological Department has issued an alert warning that there will be heavy rain in a total of 11 states of the country including the state of South India. The Meteorological Department has predicted light to moderate rain over South Karnataka and North Interior Tamil Nadu during the next 24 hours. Light to moderate rains are also forecast over Karnataka, Kerala and rest of Lakshadweep. Apart from this, moderate rain may occur at one or two places in Telangana. Light rain is forecast over South Odisha, Vidarbha, Marathwada and South-Central Maharashtra. While in Ladakh, Jammu-Kashmir and Himachal Pradesh, light rain and snowfall are also predicted.
Effect of snowfall in hilly areas
Cyclone Mendus may have waned, but it is still having an impact on weather activity. Moderate to heavy rains especially in Kanchipuram, Thiruvallur and Villupuram districts of Tamil Nadu have been predicted for the next two days and hence school holidays have been declared in these districts today as well. According to private weather agency Skymet, the south coastal areas of Andhra Pradesh, Tamil Nadu and Kerala may receive moderate rainfall. Meanwhile, the effect of snowfall in the hilly areas is now beginning to affect the plains of North India.
December 15 will be freezing cold in these states
Punjab, Haryana, Delhi, Uttar Pradesh, Bihar and Jharkhand have started getting cold. In Rajasthan, Madhya Pradesh and Chhattisgarh, the temperature continues to drop. According to the forecast of the Meteorological Department, freezing cold will start in all these states by December 15. According to a state government report, SPSR Nellore and Tirupati districts have been advised to be alert due to sudden rise in water level in minor rivers like Kandleru, Maneru and Swarnmukhi.
